"Repetition" - John Yunga

                                                                                                                 Repetition

The designs that helped me make this art work are found from the, Repetition slide show. The first one is the book cover from Henry Van De Velde made in 1908 and the second one is called Harran II from Frank Stella, which was made in 1967. If you compare both of those designs and compare them with mine you can see that I tried to make my work similar to Henry's by continuing drawing my pattern until I don't have enough space to draw the rest. I took inspiration from Frank as well because I used the same shape but tilted a bit so it can looked a bit unique. I also added a few of my ideas as well of course, which I used repetition shape, repetition in size, repetition in space, and finally repetition in gravity. Overall, I tried to make it as different as possible so it can look different and new.

Parts I wanted to add but I couldn't was to complete the second diamond to make it as a full shape, so it can look like the shapes are repeating itself. But unfortunately the drawing had to be 6'8 so I had to manage with the limited space I had. In addition, I wanted to add more shading to the art work but it won't look as good as it finally came out. This is because it doesn't look good if most parts of the art work are shaded, only the important parts would make sense to shade in. The only change I would have done is to make the design more smaller so I can have many diamond shapes shaded in so it would like a pattern but I decided to make it bigger so unfortunately only 1 and 1/2 shape were able to fit in.

The challenges I faced while making my repetition artwork is the shading part. The reason for this is due to the shapes being big, so it would make my paper messy and filled with ink if I shaded in for a long duration. As I said before, my artwork being messy was a problem as well because it made my artwork look terrible so I took a bit of my time to erase these marks so it would look clean. Overall, these were my only two problems faced, every other area turned out simple and peaceful.
